What is a Smart City platform?
It is the standardization of the Integral Management Systems of a Smart City, that is, it is the operating system of the IoT devices that provide the city with intelligence. It allows knowing all the data obtained in a simple way so that the interpretation can be simple but detailed and consequently, improve action plans and offer higher quality services to citizens.
ELON CLOUD complies with UNE 178104. This regulation focuses on those requirements of the mechanisms for the exchange of information and transversal operation of the city that allow:
- Knowledge in real time of the state of the City.
- The coordination and provision of the information available by the managers of the city’s maintenance services.
- The dynamic management of activities according to current data, available resources and objective levels of quality of services.
- The establishment of interaction channels with the City government and with the Citizens through specific subsystems that establish two-way information flows.
What are IoT devices in smart cities?
The IoT, from the acronym in English Internet Of Things, in Castilian, Internet of Things, consists of the interconnection of physical elements of our environment to the Internet and in this way to be able to know and control any “thing” around us. IoT devices can sensor any aspect of the city, that is, the IoT offers information on the operation of the city and thus, to be able to better manage the verticals of the municipality.
How do IoT devices connect to the Smart city platform?
Although technically it is a complex set of components, functional blocks, hardware, telecommunication networks, services and ICT applications that interact with each other, it can be summarized in a much simpler way. The data captured by the device needs a communication protocol to send it to the server, the most frequent today are Wi-Fi or LoRaWAN. Once the data has been sent to the internet and has reached the server, it is displayed in the graphs of the Smart City platform.
What is Bigdata and what is it for in Smart Cities?
Big Data is the term used to describe the accumulation of an immense amount of data, derived from the computational activity of thousands or billions of pieces of hardware and software.
In order for Big Data to start in cities, data sources are necessary that provide them to a software tool that is dedicated to analyzing the trends that these data sources offer us. What do we mean by data sources? Well, in the case of Smart Cities, the IOT (Internet of Things) comes into play. The internet of things is, in short, making everyday things send data to the internet. For example, streetlights. A City Council may not want to depend on a neighbor’s notification of a faulty streetlight to proceed to repair it, therefore, if they incorporate a sensor that sends a message over the Internet saying “this streetlight needs maintenance”, the administration responsible for that streetlight, in this case the City Council may proceed with the problem. Let’s imagine, then, that all the streetlights in the city incorporate this type of sensor, and therefore we begin to have real-time data on the number of replacements per neighborhood, the periodicity, etc… Being able to find out after having processed the data : Which is the neighborhood with the most vandalism, for example.
In short, Big Data makes it possible to find solutions for citizens through the analysis of a large volume of information.
What is the citizen portal in a Smart City platform?
To complete and complement the Smart City platform, the citizen portal is used, they are the points of interaction between the information generated and the citizenry.
The information generated from the city verticals and managed from the government, is displayed on different channels both via the Internet and on public roads, the most used to transmit messages or any other information are screens, QRs and web page.
This exercise promotes transparency, citizen participation and awareness. All this provides citizens with knowledge of the situation around them. In turn, this tool is the ideal channel to find out and measure citizen satisfaction with any action or service.
This environment is worked from the DEVLON CLOUD Smart City Platform.
